Why Clear Aligners?

ALIGNER MYTHS (DON’T BE A MARKETING VICTIM)

Aligners are not for everyone in every situation. There are a lot of marketing dollars behind some brands and many of the claims are unfounded.

• You only have to wear them at night. Not true. Whatever gains are made overnight or likely to be erased as the teeth relapse over the next 16 hours.
• Aligners are faster. Not true. There is a limit on how fast teeth can move. We are actually reshaping bone to move teeth. Pushing this limit can either slow the process down or actually damage the teeth. Easy does it for the best result.
• You can do it yourself. Not according to the people we retreat who tried the DIY route and wasted their money. This is a complex process. Please ask for a demonstration of how we do it. Plus, we often find pathology or other dental problems like gum recession that need to be addressed before orthodontics may be safely accomplished.
• Aligners can straighten anything. Aligners are one method of many that we use. We want to make sure that we accomplish your goals. Use of aligners in cases that are too difficult wastes your time and money and can be frustrating. The evaluation appointment will sort out the best choice in methods for your particular problem.
• My general dentist can do aligners. Dr. Bentele accomplished a 3-year residency in orthodontics at The Ohio State University. A general dentist took a weekend course in aligners at the University of Ramada Inn. Orthodontics is all we do, we provide it at a high level and the cost will not be anymore to have a specialist do it.
• Aligners are for kids. Maybe. The problem here is compliance. Once braces are on they are on and will do the job. With children, they must be dedicated to keeping the aligners in nearly full time and not lose them.

SureSmile Clear Aligners

– Similar to Invisalign but with greater control by Dr. Bentele. In most cases he will accomplish the tooth movements virtually to our standards through the SureSmile platform. This then generates 3D printed models of each phase. Each aligner is manufactured in our in-house lab. With this form of nearly invisible treatment, the mechanism of smile transformation is hidden, but not your smile! Hybrid Aligner Treatment

No, they aren’t partially battery powered. Some patients with a moderately severe malocclusion desire aligner treatment but the difficulty of the case determines that braces are the best answer. Oftentimes one arch fits this criteria and the opposing arch has a milder problem that is amenable to aligner treatment. Other times the case could be totally treatable with aligners but it may take a long and potentially frustrating time to accomplish a desirable result. In these cases, we can now offer “hybrid aligner treatment” which still gives a great result in a timely fashion. We start one or both arches in fixed braces for 4-6 months. That gets us over the hump by aligning some of the more crowded or overlapped teeth. Then the braces are removed and a new optical scan is made of the almost there setup to finish out with aligners.
