With this form of nearly invisible treatment, the mechanism of smile transformation is hidden, but not your smile! Advances in Orthodontics - Due to advances in orthodontic technology, these are not the braces you may remember from childhood. Instead of metal bands, small brackets are now bonded to the teeth. Each bracket has a “prescription” individualized to a specific tooth. This means greater precision with fewer appointments. The wires literally were developed from the space program. These titanium alloy wires have “shape memory”. When the wire is bent to fit a crooked tooth, it gently moves it by applying light but continual pressure and reshaping the bone. The stainless steel wires of past decades applied a harsh force for a short period of time. And no more goopy impressions for aligners or the initial diagnostic models. We now have an optical scanner that produces virtual 3-D models.
